A Note from Diane
There’s little doubt that 2025 is off to an uncertain start. The threat of tariffs on Canadian goods exported to the United States, the federal Liberal leadership race, the provincial election here in Ontario, and the recent decision by some global companies to step away from diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. It’s a lot. Like you, I’m sure, almost every conversation I have touches on at least one of these topics, often with an underlying anxiousness about how London and Middlesex may be affected.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend London’s State of the City Address, hosted by the London Chamber of Commerce, along with members of our volunteer Board of Directors and committees. While the speakers, including London Mayor Josh Morgan, acknowledged our challenges, they also reminded us of the progress we are making on complex issues such as health and homelessness by coming together to create sustainable solutions.
That collaboration is fuelled by the strong community bonds in London and Middlesex that I see every day in my role at London Community Foundation. In the first several months as President and CEO, I had the privilege of meeting with donors and fundholders, front-line organizations, elected officials, community partners, local First Nation leaders and community members, health care and educational leaders, and many more. I heard about challenges, for sure, but more importantly, I heard about ways the Foundation can catalyze and support collaboration to strengthen our community and ensure no one is left behind.
2025 promises to be a crucial year for the Foundation and our work. With our current strategic plan ending, our Board, committee members, and staff will be creating a new one to guide us through the next several years. We know we cannot do this work alone. Listening and learning from a full range of partners will be essential to ensure the Foundation supports stronger, more equitable communities for years to come.
